Hearthstone: Knights of the Frozen Throne Release Date and Card Prices

Blizzard confirmed that the Hearthstone: Knights of the Frozen Throne release date is August 10, 2017 (August 11 in Europe and Asia). The publishing giant has said that the expansion will arrive in August for Windows and Mac PCs; iOS and Android tablets; and mobile phones.

Showdown with the Lich King: The Frozen Throne

As with all Hearthstone cards, Knights of the Frozen Throne card packs will be winnable in Hearthstone’s Arena mode and purchasable with in-game gold or real money at the same prices as Hearthstone’s other card packs. Knights of the Frozen Throne card packs will also be given to players as they complete portions of the campaign.

The Knights of the Frozen Throne expansion will include free missions for all players: A prologue, two wings of three bosses (including battles against Professor Putricide and Sindragosa), and a final showdown against The Lich King. Card packs will be awarded as follows:

  • Random legendary Hero Card awarded for completing the prologue mission – transforms a hero into a class-specific Death Knight
  • Knights of the Frozen Throne Card Park for completing a wing
  • Knights of the Frozen Throne Card Pack for defeating the Lich King

Pre-order Hearthstone: Knights of the Frozen Throne Card Bundle

Until the Knights of the Frozen Throne expansion is released, players can pre-order special 50-card bundles. The pack, limited to one purchase per account, which costs $49.99, also gives players a unique themed card part from the Lich King.

Defeat Lich King to Unlock a New Hero

A new video (via Metabomb) hosted by Dave Kosak, Lead Mission Designer on the Frozen Throne expansion, has revealed some neat mechanics for when fighting against the Lich King and a cool reward.

Kosak announced that players who beat the Lich King with all nine heroes will unlock new Paladin hero, Prince Arthas. This won’t be easy, however, as the Lich King gives each hero a different penalty.

Lich King Hero Penalties in Frozen Throne

  • Mage – Health will be reduced by 1.
  • Paladin – Fallen minions will come back to life and fight for the Lich King.

Lich King Battle Spells and Style

  • The Lich King has a spell (Army of the Dead) which summons seven 3/3 Ghouls with Taunt.
  • The Lich King will cheat.

New Cards, Hero Cards, Lifesteal Keyword in Knights of the Frozen Throne

Knights of the Frozen Throne will turn all of Hearthstone’s heroes into Death Knights. The first reveal is Deathstalker Rexxar.



Here are cards currently revealed for Hearthstone: Knights of the Frozen Throne:

  • Prince Keleseth (2 mana): A 2/2 legendary minion. He has a Battlecry: “If your deck has no 2-cost cards, give all minions in your deck +1/+1.
  • Spirit Lash (2 mana): A spell that deals 1 damage to all minions. It includes the new Lifesteal keyword.
  • Shallow Gravedigger (3 mana): A 3/1 Deathrattle minion. When they die, they will add a random Deathrattle minion to your hand.
  • Chillblade Champion (4 mana): A 3/2 Charge minion that is exclusive to the Paladin class. When they attack they also refill health.
  • Deathstalker Rexxar (6 mana): A legendary card that is exclusive to the Hunter class. It deals 2 damage to all enemy minions and grants five armor. It also turns Rexxar into a Death Knight, granting him special powers.


  • Professor Putricide (4 mana): A 5/4 legendary card places a random Hunter Secret into the battlefield after a Secret is played.


  • Mountainfire Armor (3 mana): A 4/3 Rare Deathrattle card that grants an additional 6 armor on your opponent’s turn.


  • Nerubian Unraveler (6 mana): A 5/5 Epic Neutral card. Spells cost (2) more.


  • Prince Taldaram (3 mana): A 3/3 Legendary card. If your deck has no 3-Cost cards, transform into a 3/3 copy of a minion.


  • Plague Scientist (4 mana): A 2/3 Common card. Give a friendly minion Poisonous.


  • Ticking Abomination (4 mana): A 5/6 Rare Deathrattle card. Deal 5 damage to your minions.


  • Light’s Sorrow (4 mana): A 1/4 Epic Paladin Weapon. After a friendly minion loses Divine Shield, gain +1 Attack.


  • Corpsetaker (4 mana): A 3/3 Epic Minion. Has a Battlecry: Gain Taunt if your deck has a Taunt Minion. Repeat for Divine Shield, Lifesteal, Windfury.


  • Bolvar, Fireblood (5 mana): A 1/7 Legendary Paladin Minion. After a friendly minion loses Divine Shield, gain +2 Attack.


  • Ultimate Infestation (9 mana): An Epic Druid Ability card. Deal 5 damage, draw 5 cards, gain 5 armor, summon a 5/5 Ghoul.
  • Frost Lich Jaina (9 mana): A 5 Legendary Mage Playable Hero card. Battlecry: Summon a 3/6 Water Elemental. Your Elementals have Lifesteal this game.
  • Sunborne Val’kyr (5 mana): A 5/4 Common Minion card. Battlecry: Give adjacent minions +2 health.
  • Tomb Lurker (5 mana): A 5/3 Epic Minion card. Battlecry: Add a random Deathrattle minion that died this game to your hand.


  • Valeera the Hollow (9 mana): A 5 Rogue Legendary Playable Hero card. Battlecry: Gain Stealth until your next turn.
  • Hadronox (9 mana): A 3/7 Legendary Druid Minion card. Deathrattle: Summon your Taunt minions that died this game.
  • Obsidian Statue (9 mana): A 4/8 Epic Priest Minion card. Taunt: Lifesteal. Deathrattle: Destroy a random enemy minion.

  • Drakkari Enchanter (3 mana): A 1/5 Epic Minion. Your end of turn effects trigger twice.
  • Keening Banshee (4 mana): A 5/5 Rare Minion. Whenever you play a card, remove the top 3 cards of your deck.
  • Spellweaver (6 mana): A 4/4 Common Minion. Spell Damage +2.


  • Skelemancer (5 mana): A 2/2 Common Minion. Deathrattle: If it’s your opponent’s turn, summon an 8/8 Skeleton.
  • Venomancer (5 mana): A 2/5 Common Minion. Poisonous.
  • Bloodworm (5 mana): A 4/4 Common Beast Minion. Lifesteal.
  • Wicked Skeleton (4 mana): A 1/1 Common Minion. Battlecry: Gain +1/+1 for each minion that died this turn.

  • Tuskarr Fisherman (2 mana): A 2/3 Common Minion. Battlecry: Give a friendly minion Spell Damage +1.
  • Tainted Zealot (2 mana): A 1/1 Common Minion. Divine Shield Spell Damage +1.


  • Wretched Tiller (1 mana): A 1/1 Common Minion. Whenever this minion attacks, deal 2 damage to the enemy hero.
  • Acherus Veteran (1 mana): A 2/1 Common Minion. Battlecry: Give a friendly minion +1 Attack.
  • Deadscale Knight (1 mana): A 1/1 Common Minion. Lifesteal.

Hearthstone’s Knights of the Frozen Throne expansion brings 135 new cards to the table. It also includes brand new Hero cards, which imbue your heroes with the essence of the undeath, turning them into Death Knights. Death Knights are granted frost-rimmed armor and modified powers.

A new keyword, Lifesteal, is also included, which grants a healing ability tied to damage dealt.
